NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT > About Natural Resource Management What Is Natural Resource Management in RDF's Contribution? The sustainable and balanced use of natural resources in the Kyrgyz Republic is threatened by the lack of the integrated governance strategy. In most cases, the benefits from the use of the natural resources such as forests, non-timber forest products (NTFP), wildlife, genetic resources and minerals do not accrue to the local communities, but used for the purposes other than conservation and management of the resources concerned. Although rural communities rely on the natural resources for their livelihoods, under the current governance regime, the incentives are such that does not promote sustainable uses of these resources by the communities.
The Rural Development Fund (RDF) takes critical view of the issues related to the regulatory arrangements governing the access to and use of the natural resources, the resource tenure security for local communities and distribution of benefits from the resource uses, and seeks to promote the good governance principles (transparency, downward accountability, equity) through the quality research and analysis. RDF works towards empowering rural communities for action as well as introducing necessary changes needed at local and national levels to make this happen.
Our focus areas Within the Natural Resource Management direction RDF has been working on topics as follows: - Rangelands - Forestry and Non-timber forest products - Wildlife - Water resources |
